Katy Perry’s label Unsub Records releases the latest single from ‘American Idol’ finalist Michael J Woodard.
Singer-songwriter Michael J Woodard has released his latest single and accompanying video from Katy Perry’s label Unsub Records, “FACE.” The song of self-discovery and finding the courage to verbalize one’s deepest feelings from indie label Unsub Records, founded by Katy Perry, a champion of Woodard since his days as a finalist onAmerican Idol, “FACE” is available now for download and streaming.
“‘FACE’ is a record that is so special to me. It’s about the struggle of not being able to verbalize the way you feel about someone you love, yet the emotion is clearly expressed on your face,” says Woodard. “I wanted to capture the feeling of liking someone and just not being able to hide it. The lyrics capture the disorienting nature of feeling so strongly for someone but only being able to express your feelings through your facial expressions. I hope you love it, and it gives you all the feels.”
Woodard grew up in Philadelphia, singing in church and at the performing arts elementary school he attended. By the time he was 13, he had sung at high-profile events like the US Open and performed for then-president Barack Obama during a visit to Philadelphia. Woodard developed his vocal chops and songwriting acumen, working in the home studio he created and sharing the results online. Following high school, Woodard headed to Hollywood to study at Musicians Institute.
秀n he found himself in the Top 5 onAmerican Idol, signed to Unsub Records, and voicing the title character in the Netflix animated musical film and TV seriesArlo the Alligator Boy.
“当我走进工作室,我总是感觉possibilities are endless,” says Woodard. “I could go all day coming up with harmonies and melodies and never burn out because it’s all so magical to me.”
The official video for Woodard’s new single, “FACE,” was directed by Janush Libicki, Woodard’s main visual collaborator, who also helmed the video for his recent single, “Trouble.”
